Ok im a dinosaur I admit it. Can one of you fucking geniuses (preferably someone over 30) explain to me how the bitcoin works, like globally?

I get the part that i have to buy it and send it to the sb, and they send it back and I convert it to $$, but how is this different than an iou or something? Also why hasn't the founder or owner of the bitcoin been prosecuted for sports gambling yet? really don't get it

also If i hold the bitcoin what exactly am I holding? Do I get a coin in the mail or something?
